Tai Chi Caledonia by Ashley J Cheeseman

Guest blog this month

Instructor Ashley Cheeseman, who teaches in Orpington, Kent.

We have invited him to tell you about the wonderful Tai Chi Caledonia event held in July every year, in Stirling, Scotland.

Read on and discover new possibilities and perhaps 2022 is the year to go along and find out for yourself.

" For anyone that’s never been heard about Tai Chi Caledonia, I will let you in on a great weekend /week of Tai Chi and related arts taught by some of Europe’s finest instructors as well as a home team as well.

2015

The official line is, Tai Chi Caledonia offers high-quality teaching of Tai Chi Chuan, Qigong and other Chinese Internal Arts, here in the beautiful, natural environment of Stirling University Campus in the heart of Scotland.

This is an understatement, as we found out, its mind blowing, happy, no holds barred teaching.

We have been on three occasions now and each time it just gets better, on my last trip in 2018, twelve of us went and its smashing fun.

The instructors are all very open and want to teach and share as much as they can and the atmosphere is electric.

2017

The weekend sessions include choices of 48 x 45 minute sessions allowing you to get a taste of a variety of approaches to tai chi & Chinese internal arts. Where appropriate we have graded these choices progressively from A – D, A being qigong and a softer approach, progressing all the way through to martial applications or topics which would be better suited to those with more experience in section D.

They also do a week long training camp, From Monday to Thursday you can train for two and a half hours each morning and afternoon. Each day you can work on 2 separate disciplines (one from category A and one from category B) for 2.5 hours each, totalling 5 hours per day. This allows for 10 hours of intensive training in each of your chosen disciplines over 4 days. Please select one from each category.

2018

In my experience I’ve never been to such an open event, where everyone truly wants to share and share the arts.

We are planning to return in 2022 and meet up again with our friends from across Europe.

You will make new friends and it opens doors to a new world of international training should you wish to do so.

I have students who do zoom with instructors from here as it’s a brave new world. The option to go abroad and do weekend sessions, it’s an open book.

We tend to go up on Friday and leave on Sunday evening as it’s a great weekend or stay the week.

Here is a link to the web site and I truly hope to meet a few of you up there."
