Our Lighthouse Garden - Transformation - Part 3

Day 3 - Building the foundations begins

The reconstruction begins today with laying the membrane and creating base for the patio area, holes are dug out for the fencing and decking posts and building the base of the decking.

 Video Update for Day 3

Day 4 The decking starts to take shape

Today the decking posts are set in and the base positioned. The weather is not great but the team worked when they could. I say it's day 3 in the video but it's actually day 4. Things now have to set and it's the weekend.

I've bought some plastic flip flops so I can take them off easily and we're not walking mud into the house when we've been outside.

Seb is checking every day that we are happy with how things are being done and everything is going to the plans. He's really good at explaining and making helpful suggestions. We are feeling very relaxed and in safe hands.

Day 5 Decking is laid, back fence is started

Fortunately the night was dry and the fence and decking posts have set solid. Today the decking floor is put down. We also discover that our patio will be perfect for playing outdoor chess!

We choose the thinner groove side so it's easier to for anyone with high heels to walk on it and it gives a little more grip when it's wet.

The back fence is very welcome indeed as it gives us and our neighbours back the privacy we had.

When we moved in there were huge conifers and a full Leylandii hedge. It was at least 12 foot high and really thick. The garden was a tunnel with all the bushes and conifer tress. Wasps love conifer sap and the trees had over grown.

The fence is slatted so the wind can pass and it still allows light through for the garden behind us.

It will be like our neighbour's to the right and we can also hang things on the slats for decoration.

The electrician called to discuss the placing of the outdoor electrics and where the channel needs to be dug for connection to the fuse box.

We asked for 3 double sockets in the back posts of the decking, 3 fittings for pendant lights, and ready for a fountain and lights in front of Oaky Doke.

We ordered the light fittings and bulbs for the inside of the decking roof online. The bulbs were delivered the next day but the lights will take 3 weeks!
